How PicEra works, step by step

PicEra takes about thirty seconds to understand and a lot longer to get good at. Here is the whole flow, from opening the app to unlocking a badge.

1–3: Photos, mode and the guess

First, choose your photos. Grant access to your camera roll and PicEra selects rounds locally, or skip it and play with the built-in demo photos.

Then start a game — the Daily Challenge, Photo Quiz or the Uncertainty Challenge. A photo appears and you decide when it was taken by picking a year and a month. In Photo Quiz you choose between four alternatives instead.

4–5: Submit and score

Submitting locks in the guess. The game reveals the real date and scores the gap: an exact month is worth the most, and points fall away the further off you land. Stuck? Spend credits on the Years lifeline (2) or the Months lifeline (3) before you commit.

6–8: XP, streaks and badges

Each round adds XP, XP raises your level, and finishing a Daily Challenge run keeps your streak alive within its rolling 24-hour window. Badges — Bullseye, Time Traveler, Quiz Master, All-Round, Refill — mark the milestones along the way.

The modes at a glance

Three modes, one loop:

  • Daily Challenge — 5 rounds, one run per rolling 24 hours, streaks
  • Photo Quiz — multiple choice, four alternatives, 3 credits
  • Uncertainty Challenge — hold to sharpen a blurred photo, 3 credits

Credits and Premium

Credits pay for mode entries and lifelines. Premium lifts the play limits and includes lifelines; purchases are handled through the App Store and its billing provider, and are the only part of the app that talks to a network.

That is the whole game

Have a look at the modes and privacy model, then play PicEra when it arrives.
